Clinical Supervision

Clinical Supervision

Empowering Future Practitioners

Alongside my therapeutic work, I am also a qualified supervisor, having received my accreditation from the Salomons Institute for Applied Psychology and am passionate about mentoring and supporting the next generation of practitioners. Over the years, I have supervised trainees in the NHS, helping them complete their doctorate requirements and supporting them in securing their first psychology roles. I  supervise and mentor trainee psychologists and counsellors, offering guidance and support as they develop their clinical skills. My supervision approach is reflective, collaborative, and focused on helping you build the confidence and skills needed for effective and ethical practice.

I bring extensive experience in clinical supervision, having supported professionals at various stages of their careers. I have supervised a Band 7 psychologist within the NHS, helping them enhance their leadership abilities, clinical knowledge, and skills. This included fostering their professional development and building their confidence in contributing effectively during team meetings and becoming an integral part of the team.

I have also worked extensively with third- second-first year trainee clinical psychologists completing Doctorate programs in Clinical and Counselling Psychology. My supervision involves supporting trainees in meeting placement requirements, encouraging reflective practice, and guiding them to enhance their psychological formulation skills, clinical techniques, and appropriate use of self and disclosure. As part of my supervision practice, I have co-facilitated therapy groups with trainees, including Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT).

I have conducted thorough mid-placement and end-of-placement reviews, provided detailed reports, and collaborated closely with placement tutors to assess and support trainees’ progress in line with university standards. Additionally, I have indirectly supervised various trainees by conducting psychological assessments and evaluating their performance during observational work within placements. I have also provided guidance to assistant psychologists, supporting them in their low-intensity practice and assisting them with applications for clinical doctorate programs.

I have further supervised MSc students during my LEO placement, demonstrating my commitment to fostering the growth and development of aspiring mental health professionals.

In my supervision practice, I use Socratic questioning, role plays, modeling, behavioral experiments, and metaphors to enhance the learning experience. Depending on the trainee’s level of knowledge and experience, I incorporate psychoeducation and teaching to support their growth. I guide trainees in developing idiosyncratic psychological formulations tailored to their clients’ presenting problems.

Additionally, I reflect on parallel processes between the trainee and their clients, exploring how these dynamics may manifest in supervision. I actively seek feedback from trainees to ensure that the supervisory space remains as helpful and supportive as possible.

I offer reflective and structured supervision grounded in my integrative approach. My practice is informed by the Seven-Eyed Supervision model, developed by Peter Hawkins and Robin Shohet in 1985. This model combines relational and systemic perspectives, providing a comprehensive framework for supervision. It emphasizes the relationships between the client, therapist, and supervisor, while also examining the dynamic interplay between these relationships and their broader systemic context.

I offer both individual and group supervision, available in-person or online, providing a safe and structured environment where you can discuss clinical cases, explore therapeutic techniques, and navigate professional challenges. Together, we will work through clinical case formulations, therapeutic interventions, and self-reflective practices to support your ongoing development. This would be either 30 mins or 50 mins at your convenient frequency (weekly, fortnightly, or monthly).

Francesca has been instrumental in helping me reflect on my growth, recognise how far I’ve come, and clarify my goals for the future. I’ve developed more clinical skills, gained greater confidence in creating idiosyncratic formulations, felt well-supported with my client cases, and have become more settled within the team
